Steinberg flips to a perfect "10"
|
| Chelsea Steinberg's final appearance at Ridgewood High School was a memorable
occasion as the senior scored a "10" in the vault, the first perfect score in New Jersey since 1998 as
Ridgewood accumulated 111.4 points to win the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1 gymnastics team crown on Friday evening.
Steinberg recorded a school-record 39.100 points to retain her sectional all-around title. |
| Steinberg will strive to three-peat as the NJSIAA all-around champion on
Saturday at the Livingston Recreation Center on the campus of Rutgers University. It is a feat that has been accomplished
only once, by Bishop Ahr's Jamie McNally. In addition, Steinberg will look to lead coach Trisha Piotrowski's Maroons
to their first team title since 1986. Piotrowski, in her fourth year at the helm, guided Ridgewood to a runnerup
finish behind Bishop Ahr last year. |
| Pascack Valley Regional, a co-op in only its second season as a varsity
program, posted a score of 109.55 to finish second and earn a wild-card to the state championships. Ramapo, led
by sophomore Chelsea Goldsharfe, the all-around runnerup, placed third with a score of 108.125 also moves on to
the state finals for the first time since 1986. Fair Lawn frosh Lizzy Manzi, a Level 10 gymnast, finished third
in the all-around with a point total of 38.075. |
